A short Q&A on working in RTB from a friend in the field.
What is the main purpose of your role?
Account management across the RTB platform
What do you do in a typical day?
Consulting, problem solving issues raised by clients and assisting them with any questions they have, training clients to use the new RTB technology (display advertising), so that they are confident to move to a more self-service model, working closely with our billing, collections and client finance teams.
What skills and/or qualifications do you need to do your job?
Strong background in digital advertising with 2-3 experience in PPC and sales and marketing.
How did you get into digital media/marketing?
I studied Biological photography and Imaging. As part of this degree, we had to learn how to market our work online as well as offline. This built a good foundation for online advertising.
What are the career prospects?
Working across products in different countries (e.g. I am moving to work in Hamburg later this year) and getting a well-rounded experience in display, I can work towards a promotion in the same company or work client-side in multichannel marketing.
What advice would you give to someone looking to follow your path?
It’s all about the interview. Impress them at the interview-stage. Even if you don’t have enough experience, your research, knowledge and confidence will go a long way in getting the job.
